Best price comparison sitesComparison sites: your privacy
Safeguarding your personal information is as important as protecting your home
Safeguarding privacy and avoiding lots of unsolicited emails can be an important consideration when using comparison websites, and was one of the things that worried respondents in our survey. However, on a couple of the websites we found it very hard to find out how to opt out of marketing correspondence.
Moneysupermarket and Uswitch had clear opt-out boxes for marketing, but on Comparethemarket and GoCompare we had to go to a completely separate page.
Confused does not have an opt-out because it has a ‘no-spam’ policy which should mean no marketing communication from the website or any third party. However, one of our researchers still received an email from the company that gave him the cheapest home insurance quote.
It is important that comparison sites make it clear to users how they can opt out of unwanted marketing if they want their customers to trust them not to bombard them with emails and pass their details onto unknown third parties.
