Digital switchover explainedNext steps to digital switchover
Digital switchover made simple
1. When is digital switchover happpening?
Find out when digital switchover is happening where you live by using the map on the Analogue TV switch-off page.
2. What do you need to do to prepare?
Read our Digital switchover FAQs to work out how digital switchover affects you.
3. What new TV equipment do you need?
Decide what new digital TV equipment you'll need and want and when you'll need to buy it with the help of Which? reviews of LCD and plasma TVs, set-top boxes, and personal video recorders (PVRs).
Digital-switchover-ready equipment will display the digital tick logo.
4. Do you want high definition TV (HD TV)?
If so you'll need an HD-ready TV set like those in the Which? LCD and plasma TV reviews, plus an HD subscription from the likes of Sky or Virgin Media.
Or for a cheaper way to get HD, Freeview has started to roll out its new HD service across parts of the UK – for more on this, take a look at the Which? guide to Freeview HD explained.
5. Need more advice on the best TV service?
Contact Digital UK or speak to your local TV retailer. Look out for retailers displaying an Ask Digital logo in stores and on staff badges. The Ask Digital logo identifies retailers as approved digital advisers.
Don't rely on advice from one retailer alone, or be pushed into buying anything too fast or into spending more than you planned, as we've found the quality of digital switchover advice can vary.
6. Get help if you need it
The digital switchover help scheme and Digital Outreach offer assistance to those who need it most – contact the schemes to find out what help is available where you live.
