Property search websites

Around three quarters of home buyers now search for properties online and many begin at a property portal (search engine). These list properties all over the UK and beyond, and allow you to search using criteria such as area, type of property and price.

The biggest, Rightmove, lists more than 630,000 properties in the UK and receives over ten million visits, or 'hits', each month. It's owned by four of the UK's biggest estate agencies so, like Find a Property and Primelocation, it doesn't allow private sellers to use its services. Propertyfinder and Fish4Homes, which both list around 300,000 homes and receive up to a million hits a month, do list properties from private sales sites, too.

Whether you're selling via an estate agent or a private sales site, check which portals your home will appear on, to make sure you're making the most of the internet's huge marketing potential.
