Tick 'Create a restore point' > Next.

2Name your restore point

Type in a name that means something to you. In this case we have entered 'Before novel software', for example. Next click the 'Create' button at the bottom of the dialog box. System restore will confirm the name and time of your restore point. Click 'Close'.

3Turn back time

Turn back time

If your new software causes problems, repeat steps 1 and 2. In the window that appears (see step 3) select 'Restore my computer to an earlier time' > 'Next'.

4Choose a restore point

System Restore will now display a calendar. The dates in bold indicate days when a System Restore point has been created; recently created restore points are also displayed. Choose 'Before novel software' to rollback to your restore point and then click 'Next'. System Restore will prompt you to close any open documents. Click 'Next'.

5A fresh start

A fresh start

Your computer will automatically shut down and restart. When it starts up you'll see a message confirming that your computer has been restored to your chosen restore point. Click 'OK'.
