Teach your kids to make the right internet safety choices
Approaches to child internet safety differ according to age. We’ve put together some best practice internet safety guidelines for each age group (under 10s and 11-16 year olds) to get you on the right track.
We spoke to Helen Penn, Head of Education at the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (Ceop), who told us it’s important not to set out strict, immovable rules about what children can do online. Ceop has made a conscious effort to avoid lists of dos and don’ts when educating children about internet safety.
‘What we do now, particularly for the older age groups, is give them the information so that they start to made educated choices,’ Penn says. Visit Ceop’s comprehensive Think U Know website for more information.
