The OXO Tot Apple & Pear Divider is designed to quickly core and slice apples and pears. We gave the OXO Tot Apple & Pear Divider to a parent to test out.

OXO claims that the ‘soft, wide handles take the pressure off your hands and sharp, stainless steel blades glide smoothly through fruit to yield perfect slices’.

Our parent tester liked the OXO Tot Apple & Pear Divider and found that it worked as promised. Our mum tester said: ‘It did speed up the process of preparing fruit slices for my 15-month old, but it’s not something I particularly thought I needed before trying it out’.

The OXO Tot Apple & Pear Divider consists of a moulded unit of plastic, rubber and metal that you position over the top of an apple or pear, and press down to core and slice in a simple process.

Our mum tester reported: ‘It’s ergonomically and pleasantly designed with nice chunky handles that are easy to grip’. She thought that it felt well-made and like it would last, and was impressed with how easily it did the job it promised. She said: ‘Ripe pears were incredibly easy, crunchy apples needed a bit of downward pressure to start cutting, but once you've started, it’s good’.

She noted that it doesn't come with any instructions but they aren't really necessary as it’s very obvious how to use it.

A little bit of waste

Our tester’s only real niggle was that there was a small amount of waste, especially when coring smaller apples or pears. The corer will always take out the same amount of the fruit, and this may be more than would have been cut away if using a knife. 

She also thought that the slices created were more suitable for children with a good number of teeth rather than smaller babies. ‘I tried it with a large apple and found that it created what would better be described as chunks, rather than slices. My daughter doesn't have that many chewing teeth and found it difficult to get through. They were also quite large pieces for her little mouth. She was happy to nibble on the edges but couldn't take proper bites.’

Easy to clean

The OXO Tot Divider can be put in the dishwasher and is very easy to clean by hand as there’s nothing to take apart.

The OXO Tot Divider is dishwasher-safe, BPA, PVC and Phthalates-free.

Pros: It slices apples and pears well, ergonomically and pleasantly designed, feels like it would last

Cons: More waste than cutting by hand, slices can be quite large.
