The John Lewis Rachel Cot bed has fixed sides, three base positions and includes teething rails. You have the added bonus of converting it to a junior bed with the two extra end panels supplied. It looks like a solid piece of nursery furniture, but did it survive our tough safety and durability tests and scrutiny from our parent panel?

Opened the flat pack only to find cracks on the side rails. Looks like this was not quality tested by John Lewis. Putting it together is not for one person - definitely requires two people and the instructions as the Which reviews states are poor. The bed looks and appears no different to several others that can be picked off Amazon or Argos for half the price. Sending it back to John Lewis.

My husband put the cot up on his own and has managed to adjust the levels on his own also. The cot is an amazing quality and looks great. The best thing about this cot is it is so sturdy - I used the cot with one side off, against my bed for 5 months (I wouldn't recommend this to everyone - this worked for me as the cot was the same level as my bed so we could secure safely - the manufacturer does not suggest it can be used in this way.) The Rachel is a good cotbed and we've been using this for a year. It wasn't a doddle to put together but I managed it alone although I had to place it on its end to do so. And I had to do so again to lower it.The finish is good and a plastic biting strip runs alongside the top of the side railings. Although for us our baby stands at the end because that is facing the door and he had bitten the wood but I figure that is to be expected. It feels very solid and overall no complaints.
