Do you understand your energy bills?
- Confusing bills and tariffs make it difficult to find the best gas and electricity suppliers
- Help our campaign by sharing your views on energy companies
- Find out how to start saving energy and money
There are two very good reasons to cut down your energy use - saving money and saving the environment.
But when you look at your bill it can be tricky just to work out how it's been calculated, let alone which tariff you're on or how the amount of electricity and/or gas you use compares to households of a similar size. So how are you supposed to reduce your consumption and cut your costs and carbon footprint?
Simple energy bills
Confusing energy bills could stop you getting the best deal
We think energy bills and tariffs should be simple. If you know what you're paying for and how much you've used, then you can make sure you're getting the best deal, and tell if you could use less energy.
We're calling on the energy companies, government and energy watchdog Ofgem to take action, and give consumers what they want: bills that can be easily understood and transparent tariffs that can easily be compared.
We also want to see longer term reform of the energy and utility markets to ensure that we will have a reliable and affordable energy supply now and in the future.
Have your say on gas and electricity bills
This will be particularly useful as we wait for the findings of Ofgem's review into the regulation of the consumer energy market. We want to hear what you think to give our campaign added clout.
- Have you found it difficult to work out how your bills have been calculated?
- What easier to understand: your telephone bill or your gas and/or electricity bills?
- What do you think could be done to improve things?
Your views will help us lobby for energy bills and tariffs that make it easier for you to cut your costs and your carbon footprint.
