Jaguar car reviews

Jaguar remains a bastion of Britishness, even though its ex-owner (US-based Ford) has recently sold the company to a new Indian owner (Tata). A product-led charge spearheaded by excellent models like the XF and XK has revived Jaguar's fortunes lately. But it still has some way to go to shake off its reputation for iffy build quality and truly challenge other luxury brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

According to our reader survey, Jaguar is definitely heading in the right direction and its dealers now rank higher than any German luxury brand.

Jaguar XF reviews

Whereas the S-Type was a retro pastiche, the Jaguar XF is all-new and forward-looking.It's big, fast, luxurious and extremely stylish - as it has to be, taking on the well-established 5-Series, E-Class and suchlike. Choose from 3.0 V6 petrol or diesel, or the full-fat 5.0 V8 - available in the supercharged XFR, which costs well over £60,000. Play it safe with a German car or take a chance on this big cat? Which? gives the full lowdown.

Jaguar XJ reviews

The styling still recalls the 1968 original, but the Jaguar XJ is, these days, a modern technological tour-de-force. The 2003-2009 generation is advanced enough - and the latest model, launched 2010, is more complex yet. Both models still uphold Jaguar traditions, however, and are suitably powerful, elegant, luxuriously-furnished - and expensive to run, even in diesel form.  The range includes supercharged R versions, diesels, and long-wheelbase limousines.

Jaguar XK reviews

Is it a Jaguar or an Aston Martin? The exotic-looking XK, a slinky coupe or sleek canvas-roofed convertible, is as glamorous and gorgeous as its more rarefied rival, and is no mean performer. A 5.0-litre V8 replaced the former 4.2 in 2009, and top-of-the-range models have this supercharged - for 510bhp, and a price tag over £75,000. Is the XK worth such an outlay? Read on for the full Which? verdict.

    Jag XJ 1

  • Jaguar X-type reviews

    1 review available (2001 - 2010) | Used price: from £2 150

    Jaguar X-Type 1

Is it a true Jaguar? The X-Type, sold 2001-2010, was quite closely related to the Ford Mondeo, and was very much an entry-level model. Sold as a four-door saloon and, from 2004, a compact estate, it was intended to take on the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3-Series, though it was less sophisticated and - possibly its worst crime, as a Jaguar - rather characterless. It's now cheap secondhand, however, so is it worth a look as an affordable way into Jaguar ownership?

  • Jaguar S-type reviews

    1 review available (1999 - 2007) | Used price: from £2 095

    Jaguar S Type 04 4

Retro style and contemporary engineering: the Jaguar S-type, sold 1999-2007, recalled the company's glory years and proved to be a true sports saloon, too. The S-type has all the hallmarks of a classic Jag - a lavish interior, super-smooth engines and formidable performance - but is less costly to run than the larger XJ. It's now very cheap secondhand, as well.
