Kia car reviews

Like sister brand Hyundai, Korean manufacturer Kia has made dramatic leaps forwards in recent times. It still occupies a market position that majors on value but it now has a range of cars that is - mostly - genuinely appealing. Highlights include the charismatic Soul MPV and the practical Cee'd hatchback/estate, both of which can challenge their European equivalents.

Speaking of Europe, many Kias are now made in European factories. Despite this, Kia still has a little way to go to match the performance of Hyundai in our survey of readers.

Kia Carens reviews

The second-generation version of the Kia Carens is a mid-sized MPV, competing with cars like the Renault Scenic and the Citroen C4 Picasso. It offers good value-for-money, is well-equipped and comes with Kia's unique seven year warranty for added piece of mind.

Kia Cee'd reviews

The Kia Cee'd, is a medium family hatchback, competing head-to-head with established big name models like the VW Golf and the Ford Focus. It represents a real step forward for Kia in both quality and performance and, along with its slightly higher-specified and higher-priced stable-mate, the Hyundai i30 it has helped Hyundai/Kia step into the premier league of world motorcar manufacture.

Kia Optima reviews

The Kia Optima hopes to make a big splash in the large saloon car sector, taking on the Ford Mondeo, Vauxhall Insignia and Peugeot 508. However, its closest rival could be the Hyundai i40, which shares the same platform.

Kia Picanto reviews

The long-running Kia Picanto is a value-for-money supermini, competing in the city car market against cars like the Hyundai i10 and the Peugeot 107. Its strengths are its superb reliability and its small-car manoeuvrability. It doesn't do nearly so well when it comes to safety or security though.

Kia Rio reviews

The prospect of a new Kia Rio may not set pulses racing – previous incarnations of this Korean supermini haven’t exactly been inspiring to look at or drive.

But this could all change with the arrival of the latest Rio, which not only looks like a classy supermini contender, it drives like one too. And its lengthy seven-year warranty wipes the floor with the cover offered by other mainstream rivals.

Kia Sedona reviews

The Kia Sedona is a full-sized MPV which competes in a tough market against well-established models like the Renault Espace as well as more recent designs like the newly launched VW Sharan. It is competitively priced and is spacious and well equipped, but falls somewhat short of the mark on safety and security

Kia Sorento reviews

The Kia Sorento is a medium-sized, value-priced 4x4. The first generation (2002-2009) car is a 'proper' off-roader, with selectable four-wheel drive and low-ratio gears. The 2010-on version is more tarmac-biased, and consequently more refined.

Kia Sportage reviews

The Kia Sportage is a 'crossover' vehicle, or what some call a 'softroader' - with the rugged looks of a 4x4, but with none of the out-and-out off road capability. It targets customers considering other crossovers and compact 4x4s, like the Nissan Qashqai and the Skoda Yeti. The Kia Sportage is another firm reminder that Hyundai/Kia is now a world-class car maker, producing a reliable range of models to compete with the best.

    Kia Cerato Hatch 1

The Kia Cerato was available from 2004 to 2006 and is a medium hatchback, competing when it was new, with the likes of the Toyota Corolla and the Hyundai Elantra. It doesn’t do too bad for safety for a design of this era, compared to its competitors. But Kia owner satisfaction is good and they are cheap to buy, if perhaps somewhat rough round the edges.
