Which? Car The truth about cars and motoring

Mazda car reviews

Mazda's long-running advertising line is 'Zoom Zoom' and that really does sum up the brand's emphasis on fun, sporty driving. It's taken one of its most iconic and highly regarded models - the MX-5 sports car - and used it as a template to spread a little fun to the rest of its range. The fact that it mostly sells hatchbacks like the 2 and 3 doesn't impact on that message.

Mazda enjoys close ties with Ford, sharing some platforms and components, but Mazdas have their own unique feel. They're also far ahead of Ford in the satisfaction stakes, according to the latest Which? reader survey.

Mazda 2 reviews

The Mazda2 is a sister model to the Ford Fiesta, and shares the Ford's virtues: it's fun to drive, easy to own and reasonably economical and practical. It's also quite striking-looking, especially since its minor facelift at the end of 2010, and it makes an attractive alternative to a mainstream European supermini. The 2003-2007 range is now an affordable used buy, too. Read on for the full Which? verdict.

Mazda 3 reviews

The Mazda3 was a clear table-topper in its class in our 2010 reliability survey, and it has consistently been a strong performer on all counts since its original launch in 2004. A competent all-rounder which is fun to drive, comfy to ride in and practical to use, it's competitively-priced, as well; the diesel engines are a better bet than the petrols, though. Find out more in the full Which? reviews.

Mazda 5 reviews

The Mazda5, a compact MPV which seats up to seven people, was updated in late 2010. It's a good family all-rounder, though the rearmost seats are really only suitable for children; the diesel engine has proved more reliable so far than the petrols, though suspension faults have also been too common. The latest model is good-looking, though there's limited choice; find out more in the full Which? reviews.

Mazda 6 reviews

The Mazda6 is an impressively accomplished all-rounder and one of the best cars to drive in this class, especially in diesel form. Choose from four-door saloon, five-door hatchback and estate bodystyles, but whichever version you pick, it's good value for money. Get the full lowdown in the Which? reviews.

Mazda CX-7 reviews

The Mazda CX-7 is a family-friendly, road-oriented crossover with a torque-on-demand part-time four-wheel-drive system; it's not a serious off-roader, but it is spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. Though only thirsty petrol models were offered at first, a diesel version is now available. The CX-7 is still quite obscure, however: should it be better-known? Read on for the full Which? verdict.

Mazda MX-5 reviews

The roadster revival started at Mazda, when the first MX-5 made its debut way back in 1990. A lightweight rear-wheel-drive two-seater, the MX-5 has been one of the most popular sports cars of the last two decades, and it's also been a consistently strong performer in Which? owner surveys. It lost its pop-up headlights in 1998 when the Mk2 range was launched. The MX-5 evolved further with the current Mk3 in 2005, and a year later it was joined by the Roadster Coupe with its useful folding hard-top roof. But does the MX-5 still have what it takes? Find out more in the Which? review.

Mazda RX-8 reviews

The Mazda RX-8 is unique on several counts: firstly, it has a rotary engine, in which spinning rotors take the place of pumping pistons, and secondly, it has an unusual four-door body layout which does not detract from its sports car shape and purposeful stance. Disappointing reliability and a high tax burden have slowed its sales in recent years, but is the RX-8 still worth a look? Which? has a detailed review and verdict.

    Mazda MPV 1

The Mazda MPV is exactly as its name suggests: a people-carrier, capable of carrying up to seven, with a high roof, plenty of legroom and decent loadspace. Sold between 1999-2004, it has long been superceded by Mazda's more stylish Mazda5 and CX-7 crossover, but there are enough around secondhand to suggest it as a decent budget buy.
