Mercedes' SLK introduced the folding metal roof sports car to a whole new generation when it first arrived in 1996. It's since been replaced by a second-generation Mercedes SLK, which took over in 2004. Both are fun to drive but the Mk2 SLK has the edge in terms of driving fun.

Mercedes' SLK sports car isn't cheap, but it is well made and thoughtfully designed. The SLK is even passably practical, as long as you have its roof raised (boot space is almost eliminated by folding the roof down).
