Mitsubishi car reviews

Japanese car maker Mitsubishi has now divorced itself from its one-time partner, DaimlerChrysler, and is once again fully independent - although how long it will stay this way remains to be seen.

Mitsubishi has a very unusual range of cars, from the i-MiEV electric city car to the high-performance Lancer Evolution to the Shogun SUV. Despite its reputation for making solid and sensible cars, strangely it doesn't have a single offering in the heartland Ford Focus class.

Mitsubishi's record on reliability is good but the overall ownership experience is no better than average.

Hi, I'am taking a look at the ASX. Mitsubishi's to the Nissan Qashqai. Essentially it's a chunky-looking medium hatchback with off road pretensions. It's probably better suited to hopping up and down big curbs in the city or when dropping the kids off at school. Than as some serious mud plugging in the woods.

So let's see how it performs. There's a choice of 1.6 petrol or 1.8 diesel engines, each delivering through manual gear boxes - 5-speed for the petrol, or 6-speed for the diesel. This is a 1.8 diesel in a level 3 clear tech spec with four-wheel drive. The 1.8 liter diesel engine pumps out 114 bhp Thats plenty enough for a car this size though it doesn't give sporty performance the gearbox is well to the engine and the ratios as long as you pick the right gear.

are good. But the gear change itself isn't very smooth. It's quite clunky. All versions come with a dual stage driver and passenger airbags. Curtain airbags are standard as well as the drivers knee air bag and the ASX did well in Euro NCAP scoring 5 stars overall. There are three trim specs, all called 'Cleartech' but are graded 2,3 and 4.

Standard equipment includes aircon and there are loads of little storage pockets. But actually it's quite basic inside. You need to pick the higher trims spec to get leather seats or 17 inch alloy wheels. And the only paid for options are the various metallic paints which will set you back 480 quid.

The ASX's crossover ground clearance means it's quite a step up to get into. Although the seat height is about right for averaged sized folk. The roof line's quite low, so taller people might find themselves stooping to get in. Mitsubishi's don't sell in huge numbers in the UK, but Ones that do usually offer value for money and sound reliability.

So that's the mitubitishi ASX. Its certainly a credible competitor to the big selling Nissan Qashqai and other cross overs and it'll also compete against quite a few hatchbacks. Medium sized hatchbacks. Prices start at around 16 and a half grand and go up to around 26 So for the full review and for reviews of hundred of other cars go to which.co.uk/cars

Mitsubishi Colt reviews

The Mitsubishi Colt is a supermini available in petrol and diesel forms, and there are automatic options too. The range-topping Colt CZT 1.5 turbo is fast but a little unruly - although it is a second-hand bargain.

Mitsubishi Grandis reviews

Despite the futuristic styling, Mitsubishi's Grandis MPV is relatively unsophisticated. It's a relatively rare thing and not many Grandis(es) have found homes in the UK.

Mitsubishi Lancer reviews

The Mitsubishi Lancer is a large saloon (or Sportback - hatchback) with quite arresting styling. Diesel versions use VW diesel power to good effect. It's also offered as the rally-bred Mitsubishi Evo X, though this is clearly a very different (and more expensive) proposition.

Mitsubishi Mirage reviews

The 2013 Mitsubishi Mirage is a no-frills, budget supermini with a choice of two efficient petrol engines. Its rivals include the Nissan Micra and Toyota Yaris.

Mitsubishi Outlander reviews
