The flashy Nissan Murano is a large, Americanised SUV or crossover, biased towards on-road comfort rather than off-road ability. It's a large, spacious and very well-equipped family cruiser. Early models came with a thirsty six-cylinder petrol engine only, but a diesel is now available; there are no plans to import the upcoming US-market four-seat cabriolet version to Europe, however. The Nissan Murano is more about lifestyle than load-lugging or working the land, but it is versatile enough to act as a useful tow vehicle as well as a comfortable family cruiser. The V6 petrol engine is expensive to fuel, but a 2.5-litre diesel is now on offer too.     The newest Nissan Murano is an eye-catching 4x4 SUV, which was updated and re-released in 2008. The Murano is rivalled by the Lexus RX and Mazda CX-7.

Early petrol-engined Nissan Murano models are now quite affordable, and are good value for money; the diesels, though slow, will hold their value better.
