Volvo car reviews

After 12 years under Ford ownership, Sweden's number one car brand has been sold to Geely, China's biggest independent carmaker. Volvo's HQ will stay in Sweden, but some manufacturing is likely to shift to China.

Volvo's emphasis has always been on safety and build quality. These days, it's also pursuing a green agenda with its DRIVe products. The range of cars extends from the C30 three-door hatchback up to the big XC90 SUV, and Volvo effectively occupies a 'middle zone' in between the mainstream and prestige markets.

Volvo C30 reviews

The Volvo C30 entered the three-door family hatchback market in 2007, going head-to-head with the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series. It shares many of its components with the old-shape Ford Focus, but adds distinctive looks and a well-built and eye-catching interior.

Volvo C70 reviews

The Volvo C70 is a four-seat coupé-convertible with a folding metal hard-top roof. It remains a relatively rare sight on Britain’s roads, perhaps due to the tough competition from rivals such as the Mercedes E-class, BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 convertibles.

Volvo S40 reviews

The Volvo S40 first appeared in 1996, and a new-generation model based on the Ford Focus platform arrived in 2004. That car was discontinued in 2012 when Volvo launched the V40 five-door hatchback. The S40 was Volvo's rival for Audi's A4 and BMW's 3 Series.

Volvo S60 reviews

Volvo launched the S60 badge in 2000 but the latest model arrived in 2010. In both generations, it certainly looks highly distinctive. Safety has always been an S60 strong suit, although the new version is a lot better to drive than the first one.
