How to protect yourself from ID fraud Useful contacts
Unfortunately, banks and credit card companies are continuing to cash in on people’s fears of fraud by selling needless identity theft insurance.
These insurance policies promise to give you access to your credit file and reimburse your legal costs if you are the victim of fraud, but cost up to £84 a year.
It’s highly unlikely that you will need to take legal action as the result of identity fraud and it costs a maximum of £2 to get your credit file from each of the three credit reference agencies.
If you have bought ID theft insurance, read the policy carefully and think very seriously about canceling it.
