Tips to avoid psychic scams and fake clairvoyants

Posting letter

Destroy all scam mail and do not reply to psychic scammers

Ignore and destroy all letters, emails or phone calls offering psychic, medium or clairvoyant services in return for a fee, donation or purchasing a talisman.

Do not reply – even to ask they stop contacting you – as you'll confirm your identity to psychic scammers and may end up being sent more mail.

If the psychic scammer appears to know something about you, question whether the same information could be true of many people.

Reduce junk and scam mail

Reduce the number of unsolicited mailings you receive by registering your name and address with the Mail Preference Service. You can do this online or by calling 0845 703 4599.

To stop receiving many unwanted calls, register your phone numbers with the Telephone Preference Service online or by calling 0845 0700 707.

You can also cut the amount of unsolicited mail you receive by ticking the box that prevents your details being given to marketing companies when filling out your electoral roll application.

Never respond to unsolicited adverts or letters from psychics, particularly those which ask for money upfront. If you are unsure if a letter is genuine, contact Consumer Direct for more advice.

Be wary of ‘free’ offers, fabulous rewards and offers of improved luck or fortune – if it something looks too good to be true, it probably is.
