To report misleading prices to your trading standards department

Your address

Trading Standards' address

Dear Sir/ Madam

(Reference: business name and address)

I wish to complain about a misleading price made by the above business. On (date) I attempted to buy (goods) from (business name). The price of the goods was (give figure and describe how the price was shown). However, when I went to buy the goods I was told the price was (give figure and any explanation provided).

I understand that it is a criminal offence under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Practices Regulations 2008 for traders to give misleading price indications about the goods that they sell to consumers.

I ask you, as the enforcement agency of this legislation, to look into this matter with a view to exercising your powers to stop misleading price indications.

Yours sincerely

To complain to a retailer about being charged a higher price change after you've ordered goods

Your address

Retailer's address

Dear Sir/ Madam

Reference: (item)

On (date) I ordered the above item from your shop. At the time the price was clearly displayed as (£xx). This was confirmed in discussion with the sales assistant and I paid a deposit of (£xx).

Last week I was told that my item is ready for collection but that I must pay an extra (£xx) as the price I was given at the time of ordering was a mistake.

By law I am entitled to the (item) at the original price of (£xx). I made an offer to buy the item at that price, which was accepted and confirmed by your company. This acceptance concluded our contract and formed a legally binding agreement.

Under that contract, I am now writing to ask that you deliver the item to me, for the original price, by (xx date). If the matter is not resolved in that time I shall, as I am legally entitled to do, (buy the same item from another retailer and claim back the difference in price from you/pay under protest and reclaim the difference in money from you) through the small claims court.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
