Remington Wet2Straight Slim hair straighteners December 2009

No need for a hairdryer with Wet2Straight

The Remington Wet2Straight Slim hair straighteners promise poker straight hair straight after towel drying. We put these hair straighteners to the test to see whether you can really ditch the hairdryer for a super sleek style that lasts.

Remington Wet2Straight

Remington has launched a slim version of its Wet2Straight hair straighteners, which promise poker-straight, glossy hair straight from towel-drying, so there's no need to use a hairdryer beforehand. We gave them a try, and our tester was impressed.

You can also use the Wet2Straight hair straighteners on dry hair, though our tester found the dry setting a little disappointing. Hair was not as sleek as in the wet mode, and our tester had to apply more pressure.

We wouldn't recommend these Remington hair straighteners if you regularly use your straighteners to curl your hair – it wasn't easy to wrap the hair around the straight ceramic plates to get a curled effect.

Straightening hair

Remington Wet2Straight Slim hair straighteners (£79.99) conveniently beep to let you know when they’re ready to use.

They heat up to the maximum temperature (230°C) in 15 seconds. But the instructions recommend waiting 10 minutes before using them on wet hair.

Our tester found this did make the straightening more effective – she didn't have to run the straighteners over her hair again and again and got sleek results that lasted until the next wash.

Intuitive design for Remington hair straighteners

The slim design of the Remington Wet2Straight straighteners made them difficult to grip at first. We found that we had to hold them firmly towards the base of the unit to avoid getting our hands too close to the ceramic plates. After a few tries we got used to it.

The controls were simple and intuitive. One button switches the Remington straighteners between wet and dry settings, and it's easy to adjust the temperature to your preferred setting. The digital temperature display was legible, but the buttons (on/off switch, wet/dry setting and temperature adjustment) were a bit small, so we had to press firmly.

Remington Wet2Straight hair straighteners come with a storage pouch, but make sure the straighteners are cool before putting them away. We found that they were very stable when placed on a surface. The straighteners shut off automatically after 60 minutes if they haven’t been used.

Pros: Good for straightening wet hair, adjustable temperature, auto-shut off after 60 minutes, storage pouch.

Cons: Buttons are a bit small so we had to press firmly.
