Very pleased with the shaving result, one of the smoothest. It shaves better than the best Braun shaver. It is easy to clean and charges rapidly. However the charging stand is fiddly and there is no indication that the charging is complete or it is being charged. The storage bag provided does not protect the shaver whilst travelling. The instruction book I received was an amateurish one. That may be due to the fact I bought it on eBay and the supplier may not be a recognised Dealer

Amazing!
I have the 1250 model which is the same as the 1280, but without the self-cleaning gadget and some frivolous extras that don't affect the shaving performance in any way. It has a normal, built-in trimmer and NOT the beard trimmer. I have always used various brands of foil shavers and was wary of the Philips rotary system. However, the reviews for this model were so good, that I was persuaded to buy a 1250 for myself. The original, store selling price is way over the top for a shaver, BUT if you look on the internet, you can save around £90 and that's a lot of money. The 1250 is easily the best and quickest electric shaver that I have ever used and it's incredibly quiet. In that respect, it's really eerie! I have a very strong beard growth and if it works well on me, it will work well on everyone else. Highly recommended!

Philips RQ1280 - Two years usage.
I bought this shaver two years ago and I can honestly say it's the best shaver I've ever used. I've used it exclusively for dry shaves so I can't comment on wet shave performance. The shaver is comfortable to hold, shaves very closely and doesn't irritate my skin. The trimmer works well and the shaver head is easy to clean under running water. The battery charge lasts for 65 minutes after every recharge and it ony takes about half an hour to charge to full capacity from zero. I'm just about to purchase a replacement shaver head and although it's pricey at around the £50 mark I think it's worth the money. A great electric shaver!

Bought about 6 months ago and is going well.Gives a close comfortable shave and is easy to clean. Can be used wet or dry and charges quickly. All round one of Phillips best. But I only bought it because it was on special offer (33% off). Seroiusly overpriced otherwisey and so I give it 4 ticks.

RQ 1280 Geeky but effective
I have growth of hair on my face that goes in all the directions of teh compass so ordinary razors are out. I have found rotary electric rezors the best for me.I thought the price of this device was high so bought it with some reservation. The shave (wet and dry) however changed my view instantly - it is well worth the £170 at Amazone: gentle and luxurious, quick and easy to clean on a daily basis and feels like a well crafted piece of engineering. Best one I have boughtby far.I agree the desk-top recharge cradle is flimsy and the "doughnut dunking" cleaning device a little OTT. Still it does the job.The instructions in box are dreadful though: not updated and no narrative - just some cartoons to follow (in the globalsied world!). For better guide, search YouTube. This product has some serious fans (unless of course they have been encouraged by the manufacture) who have posted some useful visuals. If the blades last 2 years, it will have been worth it.

First week, but does seem to be the best electric shaver.
I paid Amazon£148.49. (RQ1280)Shaver is longer than expected and the chrome/shiny black front a bit bling, but grip good. The 3D head is excellent and the blades do seem to pick up and cut well.My first smooth Philips shave.Skin is left a little irritated, but Philips always say the skin takes time to adjust. The "minutes left" number is shown large. The cutters open on hinges flower like, so are very easy to clean and air dry.I see little need for the huge cleaner box supplied. So a cheaper but 3D version would be the way to go as BMW51K wrote below.

Update after 7 months use
Although the shaver still performs well, after 7 months there is a noticeable reduction in the sharpness of the cutters. I normally shave wet, using shaving oil or cream. Areas on my neck that the shaver cut closely and smoothly when new now require longer, and even then are not cut as close. Whan I shave dry, it is not really very comfortable - it used to be, and cuts much less well than when used wet. So I can't see the cutters loasting for the supposed 2 years before needing to be replaced. It's still better than my previous shaver, but quite a noticeable drop in performance from new. When it comes to buying cutters - I'll look for them via ebay in the USA from the Norelco brand. I bought HQ cutters there with a 60% saving from UK!

I have an RQ1280 which hopefully will be more water resistant than my previous Philips shaver where the outer clear plastic disintegrated and the display has been affected by damp. The RQ1280 is the closest shave I have had from an electric razor. What moved me to post today was that I did not shave yesterday and unlike previous electric razors the RQ1280 coped easily with 2 days growth. This is a first for any of the more than half dozen electric razors I have owned and for me a great plus point.

Phenomenal Product
Excel's at:The saftey mechanism is almost flawless because the adams apple area, chin and above, below and around the lip will achieve more a superior shave than even with a manual razor because you can just shave around these area's effortlessly and have not cut myself once. Only mild pressure is needed and I even go against the grain and have a shave that rival a cut throat. It is true, you have to go in cirular motion's, which after a close inspection reveal's why; there are several different types of blades that are presumably designed to catch all hair regardless of length and angle and aside from the lower neck, pretty much on either side of the adam's apple, it does just that.Aside from the area's it truly excel's at, you quickly get the hang of going in circular motion's for most of the saving area's. It really is not painful, and most area's are very close to a wet manual shave. Very close! And, below around the neck line, around the adam's apple itself to get those few hairs and the chin, above below and around the lips and below the nose. Incredible!Cons - The neck area on eigther side and just above of the adman's apple, is prone to having some hair patches and I would say for this area, that oil or a wet shave is an absolute must because you will easily come out in a rash and spots because it can take a while to get rid of them all.Possibly the best compared to the top-of-the-line competitor's for the rest of the face but am considering buying the panasonic as well because that look's to be the next best and can apparently deal with then neck area, so am considering alternating between the 2 every other day to get the neck hair's that are a bit of a struggle in a couple of part's of the lower neck and to also safeguard should one break or need repairing, so I can continue shaving. The price, is a serious bone of contention with me because we Brit's really are a treasure trove for international businesses and Philips is as much as guilty as the rest for over-charging compared to our American contemporaries.Always, remember to to check Amazon.de and Amazon.com. I bought mine labelled the Norelco 1280, which is the same identical product. Better still, I also opted for the one with the cleaning hardware because all in with delivery (which, did take 3 weeks to deliver) and the presumed custom's charges that Amazon now charge, which was not charged as recent as a couple of years ago.I paid £199.71 for the razor and cleaning kit, which is excellent at it's job and is by far the cheapest of anywhere. This same product, which was not released with the cleaning base until literally a week before I bought this product and has been available for many month's before with the cleaning base option in America for a long time and yet it cost in total £335 on Amazon.co.uk! This is not Amazon this is Philips.

Great shaver with some flaws but a terrible which? review
Great shaver with excellent clean cut, however which? seem to have decided to overlook some big flaws. Firstly the there is virtually no catchment of the shaving dust so if you wear a dark top, you will be covered in shaving dust. This is quite unlike many other shavers where you empty the shaver to clean it out, not on this model. Also the charger is a desktop stand where you sit the shaver into it, very impractical for travelling as it takes up a lot of space and could be broken easily.Overall its a great shaver, just pity which? didn't do a complete job when reviewing.

RQ1250. The Philips SensoTouch range really is as good as Which? say.
The RQ1250 is the lowest spec in the SensoTouch 3D range. The 3 shavers in the range all have the same shaving heads and all the top of the line Philips shavers . The main difference is the light displays for battery levels and the colour/finish of the shaver bodies. The RQ1250 has a black ABS plastic body with the 3 level battery indicator lights that shine through whenever the shaver is turned off. I bought mine new on Ebay for £99. The RRP is £199 but you should easily be able to find it for much less than that. This is the best electric shaver I have ever had. It shaves very close (at last an electric shaver that really does shave as close as a blade) and so far iv'e not had any razor rash. It is vey quiet in operation and a real pleasure to use. I have only used the slide in/out trimmer once but worked well and it much more convenient than having to remove the shaving heads and attach a separate trimming head. I have used it with King of Shaves oil, Nivea shaving cream and dry. I prefer a wet shave and the oil is my favourite choice but that is a matter of personal preference. All in all a truly great shaver. It comes with a 2 year warranty, extendable to 3 years if registered online so it should be good for years of use. A worthy Which best buy.

RQ1260 is excellent - best electric shaver I've ever used
The 1260 is the same shaver as the 1280 except for minor cosmetic differences and the display is not as fancy - oh and it doesn't have the luxury travel pouch, just a perfectly good one. I didn't think the extra £100 for those additional features was worthwhile. ( It's now only £50 extra as John Lewis have an offer on the 1280 at the time of writing). Oddly, the 1260 was generally cheaper than the 1250.The shaving performance is excellent, particularly when used with shaving cream or oil. (Can't see the value in shaving foam as most of it is not in contact with your skin where it needs to be to be effective). It's also good when used dry.I bought this to replace a Philips HQ series, and I thought that was good - this is significantly better, although not as comfortable to hold, and you need to use a circular motion to get the best results. It gives a close shave - almost as close as a razor but without any razor burn. Truly an excellent shaver.
