Grow your own winter salad What not to grow in winter
Rocket's not a very good winter crop
Don’t bother with…
Rocket was a disappointment, producing only a small crop of weakly peppery leaves in December and January. It also suffered from slug and frost damage, even under fleece. The loose leaf Cocarde lettuce we grew tasted bitter, and struggled to produce decent-sized plants.
We also grew a variegated land cress, which tasted bitter and produced weedy all-green rosettes.
