Stihl is a well-established German brand, perhaps best known for its chainsaws and forestry equipment. Because of its heavy-duty credentials, Stihl is a premium brand and has a reputation for making reliable equipment for domestic use.

Unfortunately we weren’t able to collect enough information from owners of Stihl machines to rate the reliability of Stihl's garden power tools. We have, however, tested three of their cheaper hedge trimmers.

Stihl hedge trimmers

Stihl's HSE51 is a sophisticated corded electric hedge trimmer

Compared to other brands of electric hedge trimmer, Stihl is pricey. We’ve tested the Stihl HSE51 and HSE61, both with 50cm blades. 

The Stihl HSE61 is a heavy, sophisticated trimmer with a long rear handle for extended reach that costs £185. The cheaper Stihl HSE51 did better in our tests – find out if we made it a Best Buy hedgetrimmer.

The Stihl corded electric range is completed by two smaller models, the HES42 and HSE52 with 45cm and 50cm blades and the larger HSE 71 and HSE81 with 60cm and 70cm blades, costing over £200.

Stihl offers two cordless hedge trimmers, HSA65 and HSA85 with 50cm and 62cm blades and lithium-ion batteries, but a price tag of £220 plus.

Stihl warranty and contact information

Though you can purchase Stihl hedge trimmers online, you have to go to one of the many Stihl approved dealerships throughout the UK to collect it. Stihl does not deliver its machinery directly to your home for safety and service reasons. Read our news story on the Stihl online sales policy.
