Black & Decker lawn mower - can look a bit like a Flymo
The orange and black colours on Black & Decker machines mean they can look a bit like expensive Flymo models.
Best Black & Decker lawn mowers
Black & Decker doesn’t make cordless or petrol mowers. It makes a small range of lawnmowers aimed at owners of small- to medium-sized gardens.
The main Black & Decker range is the new Emax collection, which replaces the GR range, though this is still widely available. Black & Decker was awarded four stars for reliability in our owners’ views survey. Log in to read how the brand compared for ease of use and quality in our full survey results.
GR range
This range of electric rotary mowers has some useful features, such as carry handles and fabric collection bags, making them easier to store than some other machines. They also have an indicator for when the grass box is full and a cable-management system.
The mowers range in size, from the small GR3000 with a 30cm cutting width to the largest in the collection, the GR3800, which has a lock-on switch fitted for easy control, and a blade brake for an instant stop and added safety if the blade gets clogged with damp grass or leaves.

Emax range
Emax lawnmowers (Emax is a shortening of EdgeMax) are newer. There are some improvements on the GR range in terms of getting a closer cut for edging and a better cut on longer and tall grass. These mowers also have handles that fold down for easier storage. The smallest models are the Emax 32 and the Emax 32S. The S model comes with a 'bag full' indicator and cable storage.
The mid-range models are the Emax 34S and the Emax 34i. The 34S doesn’t come with any of the frills, while the 34i has a 'bag full' indicator, cable storage and the Compact & Go grass collector, which Black & Decker claims gives you an extra 30% capacity on your grass box.
The largest model is the Emax 38i, which comes with all the convenience features: a cable manager, six cutting heights, a longer cable and the compacting grass collector.

Black & Decker is a cheaper brand of lawnmowers, though the new Emax models will cost you more.
The smallest Black & Decker mower, the GR3000, costs about £60 and the larger GR3400 costs £90. This compares with the Emax 32, priced £70, and the larger 34i, which comes with extra features, at £125.
