Which? response to the afterthought comment
Thank you for your comment, we are obviously very disappointed to hear that you feel let down by the recommendation that led you to install the Baxi Duo Tec boiler.

However we think it is fair to point out that the Best Buy recommendation was given to a specific Baxi Duo Tec model that was tested by Which? in an acredited test laboratory.

Based on our testing criteria the Duo Tec we recommended outperformed other boilers that we tested. At that time we did not have information on brand durability or brand customer score to indicate that the boiler was anything less than a good choice, so there was nothing to prevent us from making it a Best Buy.

Feedback on our test, both from members and the industry led us to believe that basing our recommendations on very narrow differences in efficiency and ease of use/installation was not what customers were looking for in terms of boiler product recommendations.

We have since changed the criteria for making our recommendations and completely revamped our reviews. You can find more details on how we assess boilers if you paste this link into your web browser.

Baxi have changed the model that was awarded Best Buy status and that specific model is no longer available. None of the Duo Tec 2 models have ever been tested by Which?.

Baxi Duo-tec Combi 28 HE - afterthought
Believe it or not, Baxis were Which? best buys at the time I had it fitted. This is one of the few occasions when a Which? recommendation has really let me down.

Dreadful. Don't even think of buying one. It has been nothing but trouble. There has been a succession of different problems and the boiler simply cannot be relied upon. Worse still, when it does actually operate it is too noisy to have in the kitchen. I wish I'd never bought it.

The pump had to be replaced within the first year. The Baxi engineer miss diagnosed the problem which delayed the repair by a week during cold weather. We had no heating or hot water.
