In our tough lab tests, Hotpoint dishwashers tend to be easy to use and dry dishes well. However, scores for noise vary from good to very poor. While one model scores excellently for cleaning, and other models score well, several models achieve only average scores.
To test how well a dishwasher cleans, we load it up with half the number of recommended place setting pieces, including cutlery and crockery, which have been soiled with milk, tea, minced meat, eggs, oat flakes, spinach and margarine. We also add non-standard load items including a saucepan, a shallow glass dish and a plastic food storage box.
We add detergent and rinse aid and run the dishwasher on its normal cycle. Once the dishwasher has finished its cycle, we rate each item individually on a 0-5 scale for cleanliness. Whether a dishwasher can get a load of dishes clean is the most important aspect of our testing.

All but one of the Hotpoint dishwashers we’ve tested come with a height-adjustable upper basket (which can help you fit in large items) and the majority have a delay timer (useful if you have an energy tariff like Economy 7 which offers cheaper power overnight).
