Whirlpool fridge freezers

American brand Whirlpool offers a wide range of fridge freezers, plus it owns the Maytag brand, which offers its own fridge freezers.

We’ve run extensive tests on seven Whirlpool fridge freezers in our test lab, including the ARC2343, ARC7453 and 20RID4 Espresso models. To find out how each model scored, visit the Which? fridge freezer reviews.

The Whirlpool fridge freezers we’ve tested typically cost between £250 and £450, except the 20RID4 Espresso model which comes with a built-in espresso machine and costs around £1,800. You can use our compare fridge freezers tool to find a model that suits your budget.

Whirlpool fridge freezer reviews

In our lab tests, Whirlpool fridge freezers generally score well or excellently for fridge and freezer temperature stability, which is useful as it means if the room temperature changes you won’t have to adjust the thermostat.

They also tend to score well or excellently for noise. However, scores for ease of defrosting range from excellent to very poor and scores for fridge and freezer cooling power range from average to very poor. If you’re considering buying a specific Whirlpool fridge freezer, check how well it scores for a variety of criteria by visiting our fridge freezer test results.

An important factor to consider when choosing a fridge freezer is how much it will cost to run. After central heating, your fridge freezer is likely to be biggest energy user in your home, so finding one that’s cheap to run could save you a fair bit of cash.

We’ve found energy labels don’t always tell the full story when it comes to energy efficiency, so we use our lab results to calculate annual running costs for each fridge freezer. We’ve found that running costs for Whirlpool models range from £61 a year to just £14 a year (the second lowest annual cost of any fridge freezer we’ve tested) – see the fridge freezer reviews to find out details for each model.

One of the Hotpoint models we’ve tested offers a chill compartment, and two others come with humidity controlled compartments, which allow you to manually control humidity in one compartment in the fridge. Increasing the humidity can help prolong the life of fruit and vegetables, while lowering it can help keep meat, fish and dairy products fresh.

As well as testing fridge freezers in our lab, we also survey thousands of fridge freezer owners to find out how happy they are with their fridge freezer brand and whether they’d recommend it to a friend. Check out our owner’s views page to find out how Whirlpool is rated for customer satisfaction.
