In the Which? lab we test microwaves on a wide range of criteria and have found a significant difference between the best and worst models.
The Neff microwaves we’ve tested tend to score well or excellently for quality of food and evenness of cooking. They also tend to score well for defrosting.
However, one model scores poorly for its auto-defrost function, and scores for speed of cooking range from excellent to average. Also, the Neff microwaves that can grill toast and roast a whole chicken tend only to achieve average scores on these tasks.
For the roast chicken test we score each model on speed of cooking and whether it under or over cooks the meat, using probes to check the temperature and evenness of cooking. We also assess skin crispiness and the colour and texture of the meat.
