Built-in oven reviews: Reliability

93%The reliability score for the built-in oven brand with the best reliability record

Thousands of Which? members have told us how reliable (or unreliable) their built-in gas and electric ovens are. We’ve heard from more than 3,000 of you about major problems that stop you cooking, including the oven simply failing to heat up as well as minor niggles, such as the timer breaking.

The highest-scoring brand has a good reliability score of 93%. But one brand has a poor reliability score.

Brands including AEG/AEG Electrolux, Baumatic, Bosch, Belling, Electrolux, Hotpoint, Indesit, John Lewis, Miele, Neff, New World, Siemens, Stoves, Whirlpool and Zanussi/Zanussi-Electrolux are featured in our reliability table.

Neff ovens are a very popular purchase - 26% of the oven owners who responded to our survey own a Neff, 16% own Bosch and 9% own an AEG/AEG-Electrolux built-in oven.

Reliability and Best Buy ovens

Reliability is a key part of the decisions we make about which models deserve Best Buy status. A built-in oven can qualify as a Best Buy only if the brand has scored at least three out of five stars for reliability, based on our survey of owners, or if the model comes with a free five-year warranty.

Built-in oven reviews you can trust

Nobody goes to the same lengths that we do when testing built-in ovens. In our oven tests we bake shortbread to see how well heat is distributed, we bake a sponge cake to test how well the oven supplies heat and we record how long they take to heat up. And we cover the grill pan with crustless white bread to see how evenly and how far heat spreads.

Which? is independent - we work for you, the consumer, so you can be sure that our product recommendations are influenced only by our test results. We don't take advertising and we buy all the products that we test ourselves, so our advice helps you to make the right choice first time and avoid costly mistakes.
