Number of espressos that can be made at once. Normally this is either one or two.

Capacity (litres)
The maximum volume of water the tank or reservoir can hold, as stated by the manufacturer. If not stated, then our measurement.

Weight (kg)
How much the coffee machine weighs without any coffee inside, or water in the tank.

Guarantee (years)
How long the manufacturer guarantee is which is included with the product when you buy it. Some coffee machines may let you register a product to extend the guarantee.

Ground coffee
This machine is compatible with ground coffee.

Beans
This machine is compatible with coffee beans.

Capsules
This machines uses capsules.

Pods
This machine can use ESE pods.

Steam pipe
Coffee machines with a steam pipe mean you can heat and froth milk to make milky coffee drinks, such as cappuccino.

Drip tray
Some drip trays are removable so they can be emptied and cleaned; some are removable and adjustable, so that you can use different sized cups.

Removable tank
A removable water tank will make it easier to fill up, to empty and clean.

Filter
This model comes with a water filter included, or it's possible to purchase one separately to use if it's not included.

Adjustable temperature
Some coffee machines let you adjust the default temperature settings, which is useful if you prefer your coffee hotter than the default setting.

Cup warmer

This rating indicates the quality of espresso produced using capsules only, if this star rating is blank then this model doesn't take capsules.

Crema
The quality of the crema (the golden foam on top of the espresso) produced by using the main coffee format for this machine.

Appearance
The quality of the appearance of the espresso produced by using the main coffee format for this machine.

Aroma
The quality of espresso aroma, produced by using the main coffee format for this machine.

Speed of making an espresso
How long it takes to brew one espresso.

Cappuccino
The quality of cappuccinos made using steam pipe (if there is one present), or accessories supplied, to heat and foam the milk. If this is blank, it means the coffee machine doesn't have a steam pipe.

Speed of milk steaming
How quickly the machine produces steam and heats milk to 70°C. The star rating will be blank if no steamer is present.

Ease of use
How easy the coffee machine is to use, overall.

Cleaning
Cleaning the coffee making apparatus, emptying the drip tray and cleaning the body surfaces.

Using the portafilter
Some portafilters can be hard to lock onto the coffee machine, and tight-fitting filter baskets can make them tricky to empty.

Water tank
How easy it is to fill and empty the water tank, this includes removing it from the coffee machine and fitting it back on.
