When we test cooker hoods we see how well they extract steam, grease and odours and we measure how much noise they make. We test for steam removal by boiling four pans of water on a hob until our test chamber is full of steam and we then record how quickly the hoods clear the steam.
In our grease test we drip vegetable oil and water into a hot pan to create a horrible, greasy atmosphere and we record how much grease is caught in the grease filters. And we fill a chamber with chemicals that smell like nail polish remover, switch the hoods on and then measure how much the smell is reduced. If a cooker hood can’t remove steam, grease and odours, it won’t be a Best Buy.
