My second John Lewis Dishwasher
After having owned a John Lewis Dishwasher for just under eight years, and with an extended warantee, the new parts needed were not available and insurance covered a like-for-like replacement (or an upgrade if I wished to pay extra). Chose to go with this machine as I had been happy with previous model. On arrival the display didn't light up at all and obviously this was unusable. They replaced it three days later and it has now been in use for six days. I am really disappointed with this machine. Not only does the auto programme take approximately 30 minutes longer than the previous model, but it doesn't dry the dishes properly - the wash is fine but streaks and spots are left on the crockery and cutlery. On opening the machine in the morning after using the delay start, it is full of condensation and everything is streaky. The 30 minute programme doesn't dry anything at all unless you remember to open the machine as soon as it has completed the cycle. The programme controls are fiddly, as with the previous model you just selected the programme required by pressing one button and the start button. With the 1221 you have to scroll through all the programmes before you get to the one you require. Why? This is pointless. Just about the worst fault with this machine is that the bottom rack slides back automatically before loading is finished. Turning round to put another dish in the bottom rack - the rack has to be pulled out again. Only one side of the bottom racks fold down for large items, so this is not as convenient as previous model. The top rack doesn't hold glasses securely as the rounded prongs are too short. I have complained to John Lewis and they have agreed to replace the machine with another one of my choice. Their service and helpfulness is second to none, but it's a pity that the machine does not come up to the standard that I was expecting from them. Basically - if it's not broken - don't fix it! The older model was much more efficient, just as quiet and more user friendly.

Thank you for letting us know about your dishwasher, Mr Kenyon. I'm sorry to hear that your experiences don't match ours. We washed five loads of dirty dishes on the auto program in our lab tests and the results were very good. John Lewis dishwashers have a good record for reliability as well, so, it seems that you've been doubly unlucky with your model so far. Based on our test results and reliability research we're confident in this one being a Best Buy, but thank you for your feedback.

I cannot understand why this is a Best Buy. The performance was abysmal until we stopped using all-in-one tablets and now it is now just about acceptable if you use the intensive programme. Even then there are always some bits of food left on utensils etc.. The rack in the lower tray clips into place but not securely enough to stop it collapsing again as soon as anything is put on it. And to cap it all, we had to have an engineer out last week because the programme selector has stopped working (the machine is under one year old).My advice is to buy a cheap Indesit - they cost less, wash better and don't need repairs!

Faulty machine, good service
We bought one in January 2012. It washes and dries very well, just as the Which? report says. However, we've had a persistent fault with the salt warning light which repeated calls from service engineers has failed to fix. But John Lewis customer service has been good, engineers have come promptly when called and now we have been offered a replacement machine - a different model if we wish.

Thank you for posting Mr Cathome - I appreciate you passing on your experiences with this John Lewis dishwasher. The model we tested did very well in our tests and is certainly good enough to be a Best Buy, I'm just sorry that it hasn't provided you with Best Buy performance so far.I can see that John Lewis think your machine is faulty, that might explain the performance problems you've experienced. I hope they can fix any problems they find. Do let us know how you get along.

Disagree with Which
I purchased this product after checking the Which website. I disagree with findings in the which report. My dishes are not washed properly. The pans are still dirty after the heaviest wash. The glasses have water marks on them and the plastic comes out very wet. This is the worst part as it gets other items wet when unloading the machine. John Lewis customer service say there is a fault with the machine but the engineer can not come out for almost a week. Not the service I had expected.
