Help
Fuel type
Whether the cooker is powered by gas, electricity or both. Some people prefer the flexibility a gas hob and electric oven offer.
Oven type
Whether the cooker has one oven cavity or two. Cookers with two ovens will usually offer more flexibility and space to cook with. Some single ovens will come with a very large cooking space.
Fan oven
Cookers with oven fans are usually better at distributing heat around the oven, heat up quickly and reduce cooking times.
Multifunction oven
Whether the cooker has a multifunction oven that offers fan, grill and conventional oven cooking ability
Grill type
The type of grill the cooker has, some have a cavity all to themselves, others are built into the upper oven.
Hob type
Whether the hob is electric ceramic, electric plate, gas or induction
Top oven usable volume (l)
This is the actual space that you can use to cook with in the top oven. It's the space available above the lowest shelf in its lowest position up to 3cm below the top of the oven.
Main oven usable volume (l)
This is the actual space that you can use to cook with in the main oven. It's the space available above the lowest shelf in its lowest position, up to 3cm below the top of the oven.
Cooker width (cm)
Four-ring freestanding cookers come in four standard widths, 50cm, 55cm and 60cm. Actual measurements show that some cookers are about 5mm wider, but should still fit into standard sized gaps. The measurement given here is the standard width of the cooker, rather than the exact width measurement.
Oven usable volume (l)
This is the actual space that you can use to cook with in the main and top ovens. It's the space available above the lowest shelf in its lowest position up to 3cm below the top of the oven.
Self-cleaning
Cookers can come with catayltic liners that absorb splashes, pyrolytic programs that burn of food spills at very high temperatures or conventional linings that need to be cleaned manually
Colour
Cookers usually come in more than one colour, so if you're looking for a black oven but we only have the stainless steel, check with the manufacturer.
Annual running costs (£)
This is based on roasting a chicken three times a week in the main oven.
Oven performance
How quickly the ovens heat up, how accurate they are at hitting the set temperatures, how well they maintain the temperatures and how well they distribute heat around the oven
Grill performance
How good the grill is at browning food effectively and evenly. More than 70% of the grill area browns effectively on an excellent grill, and less than 40% on a very poor grill
Hob performance
How quickly and efficiently the hob heats up and its effectiveness at simmering
Reliability
Five stars means that this brand of cooker has an excellent reliability record, four stars represents good reliability and three stars means average, or satisfactory, reliability. Two stars is poor and one star very poor. If a cooker doesn't have a star rating for reliability this means that we don't hold enough data about the reliability record of the brand to work out a reliability score.
Energy use
This is based on how much it costs to roast a chicken three times a week in the main oven of this cooker. The energy test was introduced in 2012, cookers tested before 2012 will not have a score for energy use.
Ease of use
How easy it is to use the core functions of the cooker, including the grill, oven and hob; opening and closing the doors; loading in out of the oven and grill; visibility of the food and clarity of the control markings.
Ease of cleaning
How easy it is clean the hob, grill and oven using a sponge and hot soapy water; the success of this cleaning approach and the amount of effort required to get the cooker properly clean.
