Energy use
Compares energy use for each fridge-freezer taking size into account.
Fridge cooling power
How quickly the fridge cools food to the correct temperature, this is important for hygiene and convenience.
Freezer cooling power

Recommended thermostat setting
The manufacturers recommended thermostat setting should result in a temperature under 5°C in the fridge and -18°C in the freezer. Fewer than two stars means you will have to adjust the thermostat setting until it matches the correct setting.

Width
With some models you will need to allow extra room at the sides for air to circulate. Check whether this is the case with the retailer or manufacturer before you buy.

Built in appliances can have the same cupboard door attached to match the rest of your kitchen.
Energy rating
New models of fridge freezer are now labelled A++, A+, A, B or C, based on their energy consumption. An A++ rating indicates the most efficient category, C the least. If your last fridge freezer was bought before September 1999, it could be anything down to a G rating, with no limit on how much energy it uses. We've found energy labels aren't always accurate, so we calculate our own running costs for each fridge freezer we test. You can see the running costs for all the models we've tested on the specification tab.
Frost free freezer
Ice forms in conventional freezers so they need defrosting regularly. A frost free freezer won't need defrosting because ice doesn't build up
