Oil leakage test
A five star fryer won't leak oil even if it's tipped on its sides. Fewer stars means that some oil leaked out from around the lid and the lowest scoring fryers had lids which were ineffective at stopping the oil from pouring out.
Changing the oil
A five star fryer means changing the oil is easy compared to lower scoring fryers, where you will have to lift the whole fryer, or cooking bowl, full of oil to pour the oil out to change it
Using the appliance
How easy the fryer is to use, including instructions, loading, unloading and using the controls
Ease of cleaning
How easy it is to keep the fryer bowl, basket, lid and handle clean
Cleaning external surfaces
How easy it is to keep the outside of the fryer clean and free of oily residue
We consider how well constructed the appliance is, taking into account the quality of the materials, machining, assembly and likely durability. A five star appliance is made from strong and durable materials; all parts fit together well and are properly finished and appear solid and unlikely to break in normal operation.
