Speed of heating
How long it took to heat 1.5 litres of water to 90°C on the middle-sized burner. The quickest (Excellent) hobs took less than six minutes; the slowest took over ten minutes.

How well the hobs produced rice pudding - this tests the hobs when cooking at low temperatures; we check for any burning of the rice in the bottom of the pans.
