Kettles: Don't Buys
Which? has tested and reviewed dozens of kettles and our Best Buys are quick to boil, don’t waste energy, and are easy to fill and pour.
We also highlight the kettles you should avoid with our Don't Buy label. Don't Buys are poor performers in one or more key areas. They might be slow to boil, take too long to switch off after boiling, have an ineffective limescale filter or be difficult to pour and handle.
Kettle reviews you can trust
Our independent experts put each kettle through a rigorous test programme so you know how quickly the kettle will boil, how noisy it will be and how easy it is to use.
Our kettle reviews highlight kettles that will help you save energy with our Energy Saver logo. This is awarded to Best Buy kettles that allow you to boil a small amount of water so that you don’t waste energy boiling more than you need. And our Energy Saver kettles will boil for no longer than necessary – less energy-efficient kettles can keep boiling for an extra 30 seconds, which is a big waste of energy.
It’s also important to keep your kettle limescale-free to help prevent problems developing, so our testers inspect each limescale filter to check if it’s well-fitting, durable, effective and easy to remove, clean and replace.
But we don’t just test how well kettles work out of the box. We also survey more than 13,000 Which? members to bring you reliability ratings for all the big kettle brands, so you can buy a kettle that’s built to last.
