Individual foods
Based on the cooking time, ease of getting optimum cooking results and general satisfaction of cooking when carrots, broccoli and chicken are cooked individually on one layer of the steamer. A five star score means that chicken, carrots and broccoli were all cooked in a short time and that it was easy to obtain good cooking results; they were also consistently cooked and looked, tasted and smelled good.
Tiered cooking
Based on the cooking time, ease of getting optimum cooking results and general satisfaction of cooking when carrots, salmon and new potatoes are cooked on the steamer at the same time.. A five star score means that salmon, carrots and new potatoes were all cooked in a short time and that it was easy to obtain good cooking results with no mixing of the flavours; they were also consistently cooked and looked, tasted and smelled good.
Rice cooking
Based on the cooking time and satisfaction of cooking rice in the bowl provided. A five star result was rice grains that retained flavour, were equally cooked and fluffy and separated easily when scooped up. The rice was consistently cooked both times we tried the steamer and there was no difficulty using the rice bowl.

Instructions
How good the instructions for use are based on the quality of the written English, layout and clarity of the information, helpfulness of diagrams and safety information. Instructions receiving five stars are written in clear and concise English with useful diagrams, have a troubleshooting and/or quick start guide, adequate safety information, cooking guidelines and recipes.
Setting up
How easy it is to set the appliance up to use. A five star steamer has a clear water level indicator and indicator lights, and baskets that will stack easily and snugly.
Using the steamer
A five star steamer has baskets that are large and deep enough to cope with most ingredients. Guideline cooking times are provided and it is easy to fit the baskets together and lift them apart during cooking. The controls are easy to operate too.
Cleaning
A five star steamer is provided with clear descaling instructions and is easy to clean internally and externally. The finish is not easily fingermarked and there are no dirt traps.
Storing
A five star steamer has a cord storage facility, stacks compactly and is light to carry.
Build quality
