Frustrating lack of support from Philips
Based on Which best buy I bought one of these a while ago, iron works fine BUT the steam pipes are covered in fabric which over time has worn through where it rubs against the side of the ironing board. Tried to buy a new pipe kit but was told they don't sell them anymore. This is crazy as it is a part that will wear and it ought to be a service item. Will never buy another Philips product as a result. Poor customer care

CUTS OUT
Bought this steam iron because it was recommended by Which. I was very pleased with the results as I have a holiday cottage and it halved my ironing time. It is expensive in comparison to ordinary steam irons. Unfortunately it didn't last. After 2 years its now stopped producing steam. Has anyone else experienced this where it cuts out and can it be repaired?

Leaking Water Tank
The only reason I have given this such a low rating is because of the leaking water tank. We have had the tank replaced and exactly the same thing happened with the replacement. It doesn't leak straight away, but after a period of use. Having seen the previous reveiw, it suggests there is a design fault. Such a shame as in all other respects it is an excellent product. Effortless ironing with continuous steam or short bursts . Unfortunately, we are going to have to buy anew steam generator iron and it won't be a Philips,.

Leaking water tank
I bought this iron (for my wife) and it has been very good. There are just the two of us and my wife HATES ironing but she likes this one. Unfortunately the water tank has developed a leak around one of the seams. Has anyone else had this problem?

Expensive but worth the money
Well worth the money. It cuts through creases. Ironing takes half the time. Even the most stubourn crease comes out. The steam tends to steam up my glasses and I feel like I'm having a facial when it's on full steam...It is noisy and very heavy, I need to buy a new heavy duty board as mine is very unstable with this beast perched on the end.I would not go back to my old iron

A Great Heavyweight
Ironing performance is great BUT:Work out exactly where you are going to locate the base before you buy. It is too heavy to sit on the majority of ironing boards. We purchased an industrial grade board as our existing board became dangerously unstable with the weight. Despite having a couple of cord storage clips, I couldn't envisage anyone packing it up each day unless they wanted some weight training!

A Singleton Song of Praise
Now that I have used this steam generator iron for the second time I feel confident in asserting that it is faster and easier in use than a standard steam iron. The water tank is especially easy to fill and to drain of unused water at the end of the ironing session.
Yes it is noisy - most of the noise occurs in bursts as it slurps up batches of water from the tank into the boiler, but the ongoing steamy puffs are far from silent. But then I belong to two Steam Railways and pay them lots of money to ENJOY the sound of steam. I always listen to Podcasts whilst ironing, so the sounds off are not very audible or important. The periodic activities necessary to wash out the boiler are still in the future - they certainly look fiddly in the instruction book, but so did the initial setup, which now seems ridiculously easy once I had run through it once.
I'm probably not the target customer for this iron, being a single man with just a single man's worth of ironing. I like my clothes ironed but unlike my colleagues cannot tolerate the thought of employing an ironing lady, for whom this is my substitute - one which will probably prove much the cheaper after just a few months.
