Tumble dryer reliability
Every year we survey thousands of Which? members about their home appliances to find out which brands are the most reliable. This year, we've compiled the views of more than 2400 members about their tumble dryers to bring you reliability ratings for big-name tumble dryer brands.
We asked Which? members to tell us about any faults or problems they'd encountered with their tumble dryer. We heard about the minor niggles, such as a broken timer, as well as major problems that'll stop you drying your clothes, including the dryer not drying at all. We've compiled the results of our reliability survey to bring you reliability scores for brands including Bosch, Creda, Hoover, Hotpoint, Indesit, John Lewis, Miele, Siemens, Whirlpool, White Knight and Zanussi/Zanussi-Electrolux.
The highest scoring brand of tumble dryer has an excellent reliability score of 96%. Tumble dryer brands at the other end of the table score 80%. Make sure you buy a reliable tumble dryer by comparing scores for big name brands in the table below.
Bosch, Hotpoint and White Knight are very popular tumble dryer purchases, accounting for 45% of respondents to our survey.
Reliability and Best Buys
A tumble dryer can qualify as a Best Buy if its brand scores at least three stars in our survey of thousands of owners – in which we ask how often their appliances have broken down - or it has a free 5-year warranty.
But as tumble dryers are generally reliable, we also allow models to be Best Buys if we don’t yet have a reliability rating, unless we know this brand has a poor track record for similar appliances.
Hotpoint are a very popular tumble dryer purchase – 18% of respondents to our survey own a Hotpoint tumble dryer, 17% own a Bosch and 10% own White Knight tumble dryers.
