Vax nightmare
We bought a Vax pet hair vacuum in the hope that our hideous cream (rental property) carpets could get to see the light of day through dog hairs on a regular basis. However, they still have not seen the light of day because I hate using this machine. The pet hairs just bunch up in the tight bristles on the head and you have to manually remove them so they can get sucked up or else you end up dragging clumps across the carpet. The hose split just close to the solid part of the handle and is now held together with gaffer tape. Not having too much money to spend on another one I have had to grin and bear this monstrosity but I avoid doing housework because it depresses me too much. Over the top review? You try using one!

Well designed and effective
Out of the box this is very simple to put together. It is quite a modern design and feels very sturdy. Despite the weight it is very manoeverable and has quite a long hose and power cord.It also commes complete with a range of tools - the turbo brush is very useful in smaller areas at picking up ( amongst other things ) pet hair. Overall I feel a lot of thought has gone into the design. The cord rewind and on/off switch are on opposite sides so you can't inadvertently press the wrong one. The power is adjustable from an extremely low setting - ideal for gentler jobs and on high power it is very powerful. What I would suggest though is that although the sliding power setting switch is dimpled to make it easy to move if the surface was raised a little more it could be operated by foot rather than by hand - a minor niggle. The dust canister is easy to remove and empty and one of the simplest I have used. In use it is very effective. On full power it removes pet hair with ease with the turbo brush in use in areas such as stairs. Overall a very good cleaner - well designed and effective.

OK for reptile hairs!
I own mark 1 of this VAX and it truly is useless.Very poor suction which makes calling it a vaccuum cleaner pretty ironic!
