A computer monitor left on standby can cost you £30 a year. Turning your DVD player off every night could save you enough money to light your house for six hours, according to Ecover.
Televisions left on standby cost UK households £76 million a year in wasted electricity. Some use more energy than others – plasma TVs, for example, consume 50 per cent more energy on average than similar-sized LCD models.
You can help the environment by switching televisions off completely.
