Find out if you're at risk

Currently there are over 2.3 million homes and business in areas at risk of flooding. On average a flood causes £28,000 worth of damage to a property.

However, statistics from the Environment Agency show that less than one in three homeowners in flood risk areas have taken steps to find out whether they are at risk.

Maps on the  Environment Agency website (click here for similar advice in Scotland and Northern Ireland), will help you work out the likelihood of flooding in your area.

The Agency is also encouraging people to make sure they understand the flood warning codes and know what to do when a flood warning is issued.

Some areas with a high likelihood of flooding can receive early warnings by telephone. To find out if you live in one of these areas, and to sign up to the service, call Floodline on 0845 988 1188.

The operators can give you information about the chance of flooding in your area, and advise you on further steps you can take to protect yourself.
