Electronics giant Sony has confirmed its PlayStation3 (PS3) will hit UK shops this November.
In countries with the euro, the games console will cost 499 euros (around GBP 340) for a 20 gigabyte version rising to 599 euros (GBP 410) for the 60 gigabyte model. However, Sony has not yet confirmed the exact UK prices.
It will be launched first in Japan on 11 November, then in Europe, Australasia and North America on November 17.
The company says it will have 4 million units ready by the end of 2006 and another 6 million by March 31, 2007.
The PS3 uses blu-ray discs – the high-definition replacements for DVDs – and is compatible with games from the original PlayStation and the PS2.
Rival electronics giant Nintendo is due to unveil details of its next-generation console today. The new Nintendo console, developed under the code name Revolution, is expected to launch later this year.
