Dyson offers five-year guaranteeVacuum giant seeking to lose unreliable tag
04 August 2006
Dyson has responded to criticism about the reliability of its vacuum cleaners by offering an unprecedented, free five-year guarantee on all its upright and cylinder models.
In June, Which? revealed that for the seventh year in a row Dyson had come bottom of our reliability survey for upright vacuum cleaners.
According to our readers, one of the main reasons for an upright Dyson needing repairs was a split or broken hose. Dysons were also prone to breakdowns because of problems with power and suction. Dyson also came bottom in our reliability survey for cylinder cleaners.
The five-year guarantee, which applies to all cleaners bought in the UK and Ireland, covers both labour and machine parts but not belts and filters.
James Dyson says: ‘We're all about research, development and constant improvement. Because of this, our machines are more durable than ever. People know our machines work better and they know we have excellent customer care. Now they know that they have our support for five full years, too.’
Dyson’s new guarantee has stolen a march on its competitors. LG offers a free three-year guarantee, while Bosch, Numatic and Sebo offer two years and Pansonic and Hoover just one.
