MySupermarket site aims to cut shopping billsNew site compares supermarket prices
19 October 2006
A new website is designed to help online shoppers cut their grocery bills.
When you type your shopping list into the MySupermarket site , it calculates which of the big chains – Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury or Waitrose – provides the best deal that week.
You first have to choose one of the four supermarkets and are then asked to enter your postcode to see whether your area is covered by online deliveries.
When you've filled your ‘virtual trolley’, the site will highlight related promotions in your chosen supermarket, and you can opt to switch to a cheaper supermarket. The site will then transfer the trolley of products to the chosen supermarket’s online checkout.
Trials of the service are claimed to have produced a typical saving of 20 per cent on a weekly shop.
The site says: ‘By using MySupermarket, it will be easier for you to find the items you want. And with our "Save More" feature you'll be able to get your trolley for less money.'
