The online electrical market is currently worth £1.9bn and is growing at a rate of 30 per cent each year.
Asda is aiming to capture a 5 per cent slice of the market by 2012 and the site already contains more than 3,000 products.
Every electrical product purchased online will be delivered directly to the customer’s home and Asda says larger items like dishwashers, washing machines and fridges will be hand delivered by a two man team.
Customers can already buy small domestic appliances like toasters and irons at Asda stores. Larger Asda supercentres and Asda Living stores also carry a wide range of TVs, DVD players and recorders, mobile phones and MP3 players.
‘Low price electricals'
Gordon Hewlett, Asda’s Head of Online General Merchandise, said: ‘Asda’s low price electricals are now available throughout the UK for the first time.
‘Our website now caters for every need at the touch of a button. You can buy your groceries, furnish your home from top to bottom, order flowers, book a weekend away.’
