Vivitar has launched a 6-megapixel digital camera that can take pictures underwater.

The ViviCam 6200W is waterproof up to a depth of 30ft or 10 metres and features a 4X digital zoom and a 2 inch LCD display.

It also has a yellow rubberised exterior to make it more rugged and durable and can work with both Macs and PCs.

Abbas Bhanji, CEO of Vivitar Europe, said: ‘We are very excited to debut the first consumer underwater digital camera this summer.

‘We feel that the ViviCam 6200W is a fresh take on our long heritage of quality and innovation in the photography industry.’

The ViviCam 6200W, which has a recommended price of £129.99, is available now through selected outlets including Amazon.

It comes just weeks after Sanyo unveiled its waterproof camcorder, the pocket-sized Xacti E1.

The E1, which shoots TV-quality MPEG-4 video, is on sale in the US for around $500 although there is no news yet of a UK launch date.
