Fake parking ticket scamCouncil officials investigating fake tickets
28 September 2007
Drivers were today being warned of fake car parking tickets being issued demanding payments of up to £100.
Gosport Borough Council and Hampshire Police have launched an investigation after the bogus tickets were placed on vehicles parked in Gosport town centre.
A spokesman for the local authority said that one of its ticket wardens was alerted to the scam yesterday by a member of the public who had received the ticket.
It had been issued by a company called Response Solutions Ltd and requested a fee of £100 or £65 if paid within seven days with payments to be sent to a post office box in Dunmow, Essex.
Now the council is stepping up patrols in a bid to catch those responsible for handing out the bogus tickets.
A council spokesman said: 'The enforcement officer advised that the ticket was not valid and the member of the public reported the incident to Hampshire Police for further investigation.'
