Although there is no 'green gas', you can still switch your energy supplier to a green tariff

Householders should take ten minutes to switch to a cheaper energy tariff before the cold weather hits, Which?’s dedicated switching site advises today.

Switch with Which? is the most comprehensive switching service available, with all major UK direct suppliers on board.

It provides the broadest criteria for selection of a supplier, offering customers a choice of all publicly available tariffs.

Customers can check the value of their current deal in just a couple of minutes, immediately start the switching process, and within 10 minutes can have switched to another supplier.

Electricity and gas tariffs

Mike Stevenson, Which? Head of Marketing, said: ‘Using Switch with Which? takes just 10 minutes to compare suppliers and switch online.  People who have switched through the service are currently enjoying average savings of over £200 per year on their energy bills.

‘While your bit’s quick and easy, once you've set the train in motion it’ll take the providers six to eight weeks to finalise your switch. So do it now, and you'll be on your new tariff when the winter weather really kicks in.

‘There are some great deals to be had at the moment. In the last week alone, British Gas and Scottish and Southern Energy have reduced tariffs twice in a battle to become Britain’s cheapest energy supplier.’

Lower prices

Last week energy regulator Ofgem says that in the first seven months of 2007, 2.8 million customers switched their electricity supplier and 2.3 million switched gas supplier. Many of the electricity customers also switched gas.

Ofgem says the switching figure is the highest for five years, and attributes it to lower prices and better service.
