Passengers on holiday flights had to put up with less-punctual services in the last part of 2007, new figures show.
A total of 66% charter flights in and out of ten major UK airports were on time in the period October-December 2007, compared with 67% in the last three months of 2006, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said.
However, the average delay for charter flights fell from 29 minutes in October-December 2006 to 26 minutes in the last three months of last year.
Delays at Stansted
Of the ten airports, delays rose only at Stansted and Newcastle (both by two minutes) and at Newcastle (one minute).
The number of on-time scheduled service flights at the airports rose from 68% in the last three months of 2006 to 69% in the same period last year, while the average delay decreased from 18 minutes to 17 minutes.
The airports monitored were Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Luton, Stansted, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London City and the figures covered arrivals and departures.
Heathrow - under the spotlight following the Terminal 5 fiasco - had scheduled service figures of 60% of flights on time in the last three months of last year compared with 61% in October-December 2006.
The average scheduled service delay at Heathrow fell from 22 minutes in October-December 2006 to 21 minutes in the last three months of 2007.
The statistics also showed that of the busiest scheduled and charter destinations, Lisbon, Dubai, Istanbul, Rome (Fiumicino) and Los Angeles International had on-time performances of less than 55% in the last three months of last year.
Lisbon, Malta, New York (JFK) and Los Angeles International all had average delays of 25 minutes or more.
Tenerife (Sur Reina) was the only charter destination among the top 75. It attained an on-time performance of 68% and an average delay of 22 minutes in October-December 2007.
